Energy Level Low - The Poetry of Broken Glass, The Art of Broken Bones

The title may suggest the violence and such associations are quite right: the album of Energy Level Low is vehement, brutal and rich in frenzied, neurotic vocal and melodies that entangle the voice like the sleeves of straitjacket.

Energy Level Low is a project from Sosnowiec. It's known to me for its uncompromising approach to what surrounds us and for the music which is a highly irregular mixture of aggression crammed into sounds, a peculiar manifesto, a scream and changeable music structures.

The story of “Poetry of Broken Glass, The Art of Broken Bones” is one of those 'unclassified' ones consisting of vocal which is like emotional scream or words blurted out as if in a maniacal trance and the music with a rock tint being a peculiar collage: rock, noise, trance, punk elements even – all mixed in such a chaotic manner that's hard to get a prevailing note that characterizes the music of ELL.

A voice – just like a drunk madman rumbling in his cell – raises and falls, jumps, rockets, plummets, wheezes, crashes, sticks to one's ears and drills, waves, reels („Chainbrake”, „Broken”). there is a tone resembling sulky complaints, screams, quibbles, aggressive attacks, personal manifestos („Nienawidzę Cyfr”). It follows the pattern jump/silence – a peculiar music fluctuations that never become stable - the surprise and bedazzle constantly.

The music is a specific combination of guitar sounds, electronics, samples and vocal. there are scuffling melodies on the album as well as trance, a bit dancy ones („Man It Lives There, Down in the Woods” - one the clearest tracks, with no vocal, very rhythmical and definitely gentler than the rest) or such with a trip hop tint (“The Hole”).

All in all – it's a quite aggresive attack on senses, yet not deprived of emotional load.
