Diorama, Vein Cat - Poznań

Eh My Dear, do you really expect to read anything else than the comment that it was a brilliant gig? Abandon such hope all ye who are going to read this text as I have yet to see a poor show by Diorama. True, I've seen more organized, less crazy, shorter gigs, but poor – never.

Besides, let's be honest, in our small, quiet, gloomy and overall cool-headed subculture such a band and such reactions evoked by a band are quite exotic: truly, seeing what was happening around the band at and after the concert was like seeing pop or rock stars rocking among the worshipers. Quite a view, indeed.
I didn't see anyone complaining though, no?

What can I say…there are concerts which bring the faith into the healing power of music back and which prove that the artistic performance might be about joy of sharing the talent on the artists' side with the pure outburst of love towards the said talent on audience's.
Emotionally rich and professionally organized event – to combine order and spontaneity to achieve a splendid effect is quite an art – not available for just anyone.

Luckily enough Poznan is famous for order and it worked for the event just fine on the 10th of October when Diorama ruled the club absolutely and unbeatably. The ruling was received with joy just as it should be at good gigs.

But before the above mentioned gentlemen entered the action the stage was given to Vein Cat.

Vein Cat - that is Daniel Wrotniewski - the producer, composer, the author of the lyrics, vocalist creates the music being a combination of a perfect, dancy DJ set and energetic whirl that intensifies in the course of each concert reaching the highest power at the end of the show.
Electronic, dynamic and fresh - good performance, warmly applauded by the audience.

Attack – the organizer – appeared on the stage just after a short break and announced the entry of the headliner. As one could easily guess – the applause that answered the said announcement was deafening.

Diorama are the specialists both in crossing emotional boarders and in keeping the balance between melancholy and a wry smile. In other words they have gained the knowledge of steering the audience's emotions in a way not to push them into extremes: easy entertainment on the one hand and excessive, sadness-tinted intellectual analyses on the other. There is place for both of these and more; actually the musicians do not impose whether the listener should dance, listen or analyze the words or sounds or just to enjoy the antics on stage (usually the abundance of these is offered) or just to fly away on the wings of emotional bliss or existential reverie. In that matter Diorama is like the enlightened absolutism and as I take it – nobody has complaints whatsoever.

The gentlemen raise various subjects in the lyrics: life, human beings and their place among other people and in society, about human relationships, and - of course – about emotions to name just a few. Generally speaking they offer a wide range of subjects worth of attention and - perhaps - second thoughts.

Add to it beautiful music coalescing all what's best in piano, guitar and drum sound plus Torben Wendt's vocal – either warm, gentle, velvety or harsh, hoarse and cold - and you've got the richness that includes many areas: sounds, words and the scenic performance...

Speaking of performance – wild rush, mimicry and guitar acrobatics – at times the energy manifested and shared by the musicians was breathtaking indeed.

And now to be a bit more specific:
The Playful Concert Attendees were definitely delighted by a bit chaotic and yet joyful bedlam presented on the stage just as by – a very Diorama-like – spirit of spontaneity and revel. The package also included Torben jumping among the audience, wearing the – already famous – flag (and calling himself „Dioraman”) as well as the energetic „Champagne For All” „The Girls”, „Exit the Grey” or „Erase Me”.
The Romantic Souls were surely won on the spot by the touching hits played in a dim light by Torben and Felix: „Belle” and „Das Meer” (songs played one by one – truly the more sensitive hearts were breaking noisily and neither Torben's ironic smile nor the sight of Sash smoking and sipping beer during the songs were of use – I can only hope that all the involved got insurance against sudden emotional breakdowns:).
The Novelty Hunters were given new pieces of the album “Cubed” that is to be released in March.
And all, absolutely all were enchanted by three encores, the carefree, informal atmosphere, and so to speak – a full-blooded quality of the show. No manière artistique , no whims and the like – empathy, sense of humor, openness to the audience, kindness and professionalism – it's really moving when the artists wish to behave in a way not to push away and reject positive feelings they are offered by their fans.

It definitely keeps your heart warmer.

So, to recap briefly – it was one of the best shows of Diorama I had seen during the past few years - if not the best at all.
Splendid atmosphere among the audience was the best proof and I'm sure the musicians who appeared at the after party heard a lot of goods words.

And that's what it was (more-or-less:) like.

After the concerts traditional dancing was offered at two levels – hell (ground floor) was for Depeche Mode fans whereas heaven (1st floor) for all kinds of Electro (from what I could see the hell was more packed:)

Anyway – it was beautiful – it happens every time Diorama enter the stage and invite us to join them in their twisted fairy tale.
