Diary of Dreams - Hell in Eden
Some
albums require a separate heart-mind approach. I
always go for music first; if it gets its mark in my heart I go back
to words – perhaps it's because the heart, the pulse, the nerves
react to music instinctively shutting the brain down.
The
words follow the melody, not the other way round.
Actually
every time I turn the new album on I subconsciously wait for that
moment when my heart recognizes the particular rhythm, the combination
of sounds and words as the right ones and jumps like crazy pumping
blood to my head screaming „This is it!!!”Adrenaline rush,
champagne hit, a daze.
Well,
the new release of Diary of Dreams definitely features several such
shots and both my heart and mind are satisfied.
Let's start with saying the album is a real Diary of Dreams child – apart from the constans
being the poetic vocal of Adrian Hates, it drives the characteristic
note of melancholy, gently reverberating sadness, melancholy and
heart-touching arrangements inextricably Associated with the band.
It
features beautiful, calm melodies (Hell in Eden, Beast of
Prey, Traces of Light, Bird of Passage), but also
some very modern (Decipher Me, Perfect Halo)
and energetic, even club ones operating on brilliant, dark beats
(Listen and Scream).
Like
I mentioned before „Hell in Eden” contains some pieces that made
my heart run touched by the feeling of anxiety and fear (Epicon),
but also gave it a taste of what real good dark beats are like
(Listen and Scream, Mercy Me, ) and crushed it with
overpowering sadness (Hiding Rivers) – the latter four are
my sound favourites.
When
it comes to lyrics – I personally read them as treating about
contradictions, a loss, fear, about passing of things and people, a
change and the anxiety connected to it, the ultimate loneliness.
Still, I also see it a bit like prayer for presence, for negation of
the final human solitude in sharing, or for sharing being possible
at all, for the hope? Is solitude heaven or hell? I believe it may be
interpreted differently at every stage of life since they diffuse
each other. I don't suppose the album offers a final answer.
„Hell
in Eden” is a beautiful continuation of Diary of Dreams albums
being faithful to the path taken by the band and yet it proves the
constant development, search and artistic progress in both technical
and artistic area.
It
is always a great joy when one of the favourite artists releases a
new thing – an when it's that good than the joy is triple.

Do
niektórych albumów trzeba osobno podchodzić sercem i rozumem. Z
tego jednego powodu że częstokroć muzyka jest tak obezwładniająca
że nie sposób skupić się i na tym co krzyczy dźwięk i na tym
czego wymagają słowa. Na muzyce zawsze skupiam się najpierw; jeśli
odciśnie się w moim sercu wracam do słów, być może dlatego że
to na melodię reaguje instynktownie serce, puls, nerwy, centrum
dowodzenia się wtedy wyłącza zahipnotyzowane. Słowa idą za
melodią, nie odwrotnie.
Tak
naprawdę za każdym razem kiedy włączam jakiś album po raz
pierwszy czekam podświadomie na ten rytm, kombinację dźwięków,
słów, które sprawią że serce rozpozna je jako te właściwe,
skoczy jak szalone i odurzy umysł jak przy nagłym uderzeniu krwi do
głowy i uderzy mnie myśl „To, to!!!!”.
Na
najnowszym wydawnictwie Diary of Dreams jest kilka takich strzałów.
Album
zawiera w sobie to co zawsze kojarzyłam z Diary of Dreams –
pomijając stałą czyli poetycki wokal Adriana Hatesa, jest to
swoista nuta melancholii, lekko wybrzmiewającego smutku czy
zadumania i charakterystyczne, łapiące za serce aranżacje. Są
piękne, spokojne, melancholijne melodie (Hell in Eden, Beast
of Prey, Traces of Light, Bird of Passage), ale
album brzmi też nowocześnie (Decipher Me, Perfect
Halo) i bardzo energetycznie, wręcz klubowo, za sprawą
genialnych, niepokojących rytmów (Listen and Scream).
Tak
jak wspomniałam „Hell in Eden” zawiera utwory, które sprawiły,
że serce zagalopowało, tknięte ukłuciem strachu, niepokoju
(Epicon), ale i dały smak czym jest genialny, mroczny beat
(Listen and Scream, Mercy Me, ) i dojmujący smutek
(Hiding Rivers) – te ostatnie to moje zdecydowane numery
jeden – w tej kolejności.
Jeśli
chodzi o teksty - ja osobiście odczytałam je jako traktujące o
sprzecznościach, stracie, lęku, odchodzeniu ludzi i spraw,
przemijaniu, zmianie, niepokoju z nią związanym, ostatecznej
samotności ale jest to też jakby modlitwa o obecność, o
zaprzeczanie tej ostatecznej ludzkiej samotności we współdzieleniu,
o to aby była ona w ogóle możliwa i może w tym wybrzmiewa
leciutka nadzieja?
A czy
piekło to samotność czy jest ona raczej rajem? Myślę że na
każdym etapie życia można to interpretować inaczej, na pewno one się przenikają, a ja nie umiem
tego rozstrzygnąć i nie wiem, czy album daje na to odpowiedź.
„Hell
in Eden” bardzo pięknie wpisuje się w tradycję wydawnictw Diary
of Dreams pozostając wiernym obranej przez zespół ścieżce a
jednocześnie ukazuje konsekwentny rozwój tak muzyczny jak i
tematyczny w szczególe artystycznego dopracowania. To zawsze jest
radość kiedy jeden z ulubionych zespołów wydaje nowy album –
tym bardziej wypada się cieszyć, gdy jest tak dobry.
