Monstergod " Invictus"
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Invictus. The angel is standing in the rubble, perhaps she's just been fighting for something she perceives as her rightful property. She is hurt, struck by her realities, perhaps she has lost her angelic atributes but she keeps on fighting with her head up. Independent and faithful to herself.
So is the quality of the album – feisty, couragous, strong but also dark. It takes from many sources; it merges, combines, creates something new, reinvents. It lives, pulsates with energy, hits in a stronger (God Lay Dead) or gentler manner (Madeleine). It's dancy, electronic kraftwerkwise (Miss Kiss, Annabel Lee), or metalwise (Silence and Violence) or even trancewise (Fire and Ice). It will not let your sonic radar rest for a sec.
For me personally listening to „Invictus” was a bit like attending Woland's ball – so many old, well-known devils meet there and the sonic vodka (pardon pure alcohol:) is being pured generously taht you cannot but feel a little vertigo. Every guest is extremely characteristic and brings his own value, stylistics and motives to the album.
A bit of enchanting vocals and guitars of Void (Deathcamp Project, UnderTheSkin), energy and dynamism of Kr-lik, (Controlled Collapse, Clicks), agressive power of D' (Idiothead) and Sin Quirin (Ministry) – all of it add up and create the individual, original soundscape.
Still, the lead is for Monstergod and their high class combination of electronics that make electro, gothic, rock or even metal that coalesce harmonically. Harsh manner of the music creates captivating canvas for the poetry in lyrics: Henley, Verlaine, Baudlaire, Crane, Frost – their poems constitue the counterbalance for the sound and confirm the artisic vision, coherence and idea for the release.
My very personal fav – right next to „Invictus” - is the piece „We are monsters” - both the lyrics and the music hit right in the spot of what's up on my side of the highway – somewhere right in between 30 and 40 kilometer :)

W tego, co cierpię tu, okowach
Ani się krzywię, a pod chłostą
Trafu krwią spływa moja głowa,
Lecz ją niezmiennie trzymam prosto.
Niezwyciężony. Ten anioł stoi gdzieś na zgliszczach, może przed chwilą znowu walczył o to co uznaje za swoje prawo. Jest poraniony, przejechany przez życia przypadki, może i stracił anielskie atrybuty, ale zdecydowanie walczy dalej i nie składa broni. Idzie swoją drogą i nie spuszcza głowy. Niezależny i wierny sobie.
I taki też jest ten album – zadziorny, odważny, silny ale też i mroczny. Czerpie z wielu źródeł, łączy siły, tworzy coś nowego i miesza z inspiracjami. Żyje, pulsuje energią, uderza to mocniej (God Lay Dead) to delikatniej (Madeleine), bardziej tanecznie, elektronicznie, trochę kraftwerkowo (Miss Kiss, Annabel Lee), lub metalowo (Silence and Violence) lub nawet transowo (Fire and Ice), nie odpuszcza słuchającemu ani na chwilę.
Dla mnie osobiście słuchanie „Invictus” było trochę jak bal u Wolanda – tylu starych, dobrze znanych diabłów się tam spotyka, a i dźwiękową wódka (a przepraszam - spirytus) leje się nieprzerwanie - każdy gość jest naprawdę charakterystyczny i wnosi do albumu swoją wartość, stylistykę i sobie tylko właściwe motywy.
Trochę tu zjawiskowego wokalu i gitar Voida (Deathcamp Project, UnderTheSkin), dynamizmu i energii Kr-lika, (Controlled Collapse, Clicks), mocy i agresji D' (Idiothead) i Sin Quirina (Ministry)
Ale prym wiedzie Monstergod – i ich wysokiej klasy kombinacja elektronicznych dźwięków tworzących muzykę, która balansuje gdzieś pomiędzy elektroniką, gotykiem, rockiem czy metalem łącząc wszystko raczej na ostro co stanowi przeciwwagę dla zawartej w tekstach poezji. Henley, Verlaine, Baudlaire, Crane, Frost – ich liryzm stanowi równorzędny element całego albumu i potwierdza spójność, wizję i artystyczny ład wydawnictwa.
Moim ulubionym kawałkiem z całego albumu - obok „Invictus” jest „We are monsters” - i muzyka i tekst trafiają chyba idealnie w to co obecnie dzieje się na moim odcinku 30 a 40 kilometrem autostrady :)
